last show.

I am writing from intermission during the last show of SSC's 09 season- Julius Caesar.  This performance is really great.  I can tell that the actors are going all out tonight!  I am really going to miss this cast.  In a few hours I am going to have to say good bye to them all- I am not sure how I am going to do that but I am trying to keep it together.
I want to thank everyone for following my blog throughout the season.  I really appreciate the support!
I will keep writing so stay tuned!  

LAST WEEK OF SSC 09!!!!

As we moved into the last week of shows I am left feeling somewhat relieved that time off is near but I mostly filled with sadness that this season is coming to an end.  I usually feel this same way at the end of a season but this season is different.  Without the confirmation that 2010 will hold a SSC season I will be watching all these shows for the last time with thoughts that these could be the last SSC shows ever.  But I do think positively about next season.  I watched the finals shows I will let those images sink further into my brain so I will always remember this great time with great people.    

School for Fiance(s) Opens!!!

SSC's fringe show "The School for Fiance(s)" opens tonight.  Come cheer on the interns as they perform the great play written by TA professor, James Bierman.  

I have to admit that I am not going tonight but will be there in full force next Tuesday, August 25th.  That will be the final performance so do not miss it.  Please join me for next week's fringe!

We started with a sold out performance of Dream!!!  Don't worry though, there are plenty of tickets for all other shows but get them fast as they are going quickly.  I am back in the Ticket Office now and the phones are ringing off the hook which I LOVE!!!

Fire Update

Hello everyone,

I thought I would give a fire update for those who are reading this.  UCSC & SSC are not affected at this point.  I have heard that the fire is 15 miles away.  I can see smoke but the area around the theaters are not smokey.  All performances are on and will be happening but please let us know if you cannot come due to the fire and we are happy to exchange tickets.

Caesar, Caesar, Caesar

I thought I would come in from the cold to let you know how Caesar tech is going. Frankly, I think it couldn't be better. We ran the show with full costumes and photos (stay tuned for production photos) . The Director, John Sipes, has created a beautiful show - if you thought you could miss this one, don't! This is the first time I sat and watched the full show. I love the modern setting, it gives a fresh twist that I didn't expect. This was the play I was most excited about and it surely doesn't disappoint.

Hello! Shipwrecked! opened last Friday to a great audience after 3 previews.  The show has received standing ovations for every performance so far.  A Midsummer Night's Dream opened Saturday night to a sold out show (do not worry there are plenty of tickets for other dates but get them fast!)  I am so proud of all the work being done this season at SSC.  Both of these show are really fabulous-truly!  If you happened to see one or both of these shows already please write your own review at shakespearesantacruz.org. Moving into Opening

Hello everyone,

I am sorry that I have been MIA for awhile.  Things have been CRAZY here but a lot of really great work happening.  Everyone is just doing a fantastic job.  This is my tenth season with SSC and I am the most proud to be a part of it.  Marco has brought together amazing people.  Not only are they all talented, but good people, you know.  This is the best job in the world , but to work with such great people makes it that much better.  

Marco always says to us on our first day "just remember that everyone is working as hard as you are" and not only is that so true but it this stage it makes me push even harder to get things done. 
Our first preview of Shipwrecked! was tonight and I have to say that I thought it went really, really well.  We had a small audience but I think they really enjoyed it.  I got to talk to some young patrons who had a great time!  And that is when all the late nights and hard work pay off.  

Well, I will sign off as we are about to go into notes for A Midsummer Night's Dream but I promise to keep you more in the loop as our journey continues.  I will leave you with this: this is the season not to miss!  

Noon at the Nick and Eric Ting!

A little update about how things are going here at SSC.  Sets for both outdoors and indoor are going well, things are starting to a take shape.  Rehearsals are starting to move to their respective theatres.  Lighting, Sound, Props, and Costumes crews are all working really hard to get everything completed. 

We started our Noon at the Nick series last Friday with Shipwrecked!  The whole cast was there with Director, Eric Ting and Stage Manager, Chuck Turner.  Noon at the Nick is the next 3 Fridays at 12pm at the Nickelodeon Theater and a great opportunity to come meet the cast and ask them questions before you come see the show.   

If you were not able to attend Noon at the Nick last Friday here is a quote from Eric in reference to a question about what type of audience is Shipwrecked! for:

"Let's look at the young audience entertainment that exists it our culture today.  One of the great examples of that is the Pixar animated films, right which is like Wall-E or just recently Up.  You know, those are films that no question they speak to young children, right?  We have all gone to see them and have probably taken little people with us and we watch them kinda be enthralled with that but I am also absolutely certain that we all similarly connected with those stories. At it's heart I think, this is what I think, in the end it's about the quality of the story telling and nothing else.  Like if the story is true, if the story is genuine, if the story is honest,and if the story is astonishing it will speak to all of us no matter what our age is.  That is something that, I think,  we never lose and those of us who have lost it, that is the sorrow, right?  Because the thing we shouldn't ever lose the child in all of us.  And that is the kind of story that Donald [playwright] has crafted.  Writing a play that speaks to that quality in us all."
